How can I preserve my wedding bouquet?

A lot of us are sentimental souls, (myself included) and like nothing more than keeping as many mementoes as possible from special occasions. A bride’s bouquet is often something she has dreamt about for many years and spent more than several hours trawling through Pinterest choosing, so it is no wonder that I am often asked if it is possible to preserve a bouquet and whilst this not really my speciality it is most definitely possible. Have a read for some of our favourite ideas.

There are so many online tutorials on how to dry flowers. I’ve heard lots of stories of spraying them with hairspray and then leaving them upside down in the airing cupboard (even putting them in the freezer…a bit soggy I’ve heard!). The only downside is that then what are you going to do with a fragile, brittle bouquet, that’s likely to get smashed to bits up in the loft or in a drawer under the bed?! If you want to keep the whole bouquet I would highly recommend getting this done by a professional who then frame them for you too, some of our clients have worked with the team at Petals and Lace. There are a lot of preservation companies around, do your research and get in touch as some you have to book in advance of your wedding.

If you fancy having a go at DIY drying, why not try pressing your flowers? Something you may have done as a child…putting blooms from granny’s garden into the telephone directory (just me then!). You can just use something heavy to press them or make or buy your own wooden flowers press.

There are so many lovely ideas that you can then do with your pressed flowers. Use them to decorate a handmade candle that you could burn on special occasions like your wedding anniversary or make them into a lovely piece of wall art that you can enjoy every day. Or, if you want to carry your flower memories around with you wherever you go then you could preserve them in a piece of custom jewellery or even a fun phone case, (love this one!)

If flower pressing feels too much of a faff why not have a go at just drying the petals? In my experience, left spread out on a flat surface (baking tray or dinner tray) and left to dry on the radiator or in the airing cupboard works best (or if you’re lucky enough to see some sun…then outside in the summer sunshine). You can put the petals into a Christmas bauble, a memory of your wedding day to admire on the tree for years to come or why not gift the petals to a special friend to use as confetti for their wedding day?
